Article: Elsewhere 2026

Elsewhere 2026
Elsewhere 2026, coming Thursday 22 October.
I painted my first Elsewhere collection during Covid, when going anywhere was mostly a matter of imagination. A few years later, I’m back. I’ve managed some actual travelling in the meantime, though my folder of places I’d like to visit continues to outpace me.
This time, I’ve been thinking about the days when I feel most myself. Away from the usual demands, with time to explore and no need to hurry on to the next thing.

I painted my first Elsewhere collection during Covid, when going anywhere was mostly a matter of imagination. Since then, I’ve painted plenty of happiness closer to home, too. But there are still places I think about long after leaving, and others I’ve never visited that have me planning how I’d spend a day. Elsewhere felt like the right place to gather them. This time, it’s as much about how I feel when I’m there as where I’d like to go.
Staying on a winter beach watching the seals playing in the water. I’ve thought about that afternoon often since coming home. Painting it was a chance to spend a little longer there.

Some of these paintings began with memories. Others began with wondering what a day there might look like. I’ve never visited this hut beside the water, but I’ve given my stay quite a bit of thought.

Together, they make up Elsewhere 2026. Places that bring me back to myself, whether I’ve found my way there yet or not.
The lookbook will be ready on 19 October, and the paintings will be available on 22 October.
You’re also welcome to visit them in my studio during the Fraklin Art Trail, 24–25 October.
