July in the studio

July was a very good month for starting paintings, finishing paintings and adding several more to the list while I was meant to be finishing the first lot.

I painted a view through a hedge at Butchart Gardens, a beach in Corsica, two versions of the view from the top of the Hump Ridge Track, and returned to a painting I first made in 2022. Apparently four years was enough time for me to think of a few things I wanted to change.

The studio gets its best light on winter mornings. It streams through the windows and warms the whole room, making it dangerously easy to settle in with an iced matcha and forget I had planned to do anything else that day.

All this painting is slowly turning into a new collection. There’s still plenty more to make before I show you the whole thing, but the studio is filling up, and the walls are beginning to look rather promising.
