Why buy originals?
It can be a bit of a surprise when you compare the price of an original painting to a print. I'm a fan of both options, for different reasons, but here’s why originals are absolutely worth the extra cost.
Original Artwork is Truly Unique
When you buy an original piece, you’re getting a piece that has been created by the artist’s own hands. Originals have personal touches; splashes of water in some spots, thicker paint in others. All marks that reveal the story of how the piece was made. They're more imperfect and unedited and one of a kind. When I look at my originals, I can see the process that brought them to life.
They Come with a Story
Purchasing original art lets you become part of the artist’s journey, continuing the story that started with their initial idea. By chatting with the artist or gallery, you can gain a deeper understanding of the inspiration and techniques behind the piece, giving you a closer connection to the artwork.
You Experience the Artist’s Technique Up Close
With original art, you can see the fine details and textures that some prints are unable to fully capture. These are the elements the artist carefully crafted to create a certain mood or feeling. Having the original means you’re seeing the work exactly as the artist intended, with all its depth and nuance.
